This is only correct for squid 2.4 and below.
Squid 2.5 has caching support for objects that have vary headers.

They are assuming that every request will hit their servers - and that
is just plain wrong. The whole point of caches is that you don't have to
go back to the origin sever on every request.

I agree with this. If the provider had considered caches, they should
have followed the HTTP/1.1 specification which explicitly includes
caching and proxying logic in it's design.
