[squid-users] https problem - "The document contained no data"

Hi all -

apologies if this is a FAQ, but I have been unable to track down a
solution....

When I submit an https request via squid, I get an error message on
my browser (Netscape 4.7) saying "The document contained no data. Try
again later, or contact the server's administrator". At the same
time, an entry is made in squid's access.log like

991904705.643 29877 193.x.x.x TCP_MISS/200 39 CONNECT
www.XXX.co.uk:443 - DIRECT/194.x.x.x -

The page is displayed correctly by this client when a direct
connection is made (i.e. bypassing the squid server).

As far as I can see the squid.conf allows for https - there is an ACL
entry

acl Safe_ports port 443 563 # https, snews

and later

http_access deny !Safe_ports

I would be grateful for any suggestions you may have on possible
misconfiguration of either server or client.

Squid is v2.4-STABLE1 on Compaq (Digital) UNIX v4.0 and 5.1.

Thanks

Richard
