[squid-users] "Message too long" on OpenBSD

In May I submitted a question regarding squid on OpenBSD and a "Message
too long" error message.
http://list.cineca.it/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0105&L=squid&P=R83836

I never got a response on the list, but someone from Argentina I think
emailed me independently to ask whether I had fixed the problem. At the
time I had not and told him so and I no longer have his email address.

The temporary solution is to run
sysctl -w net.inet.ip.mtudisc=0

see /etc/sysctl.conf to set permanently

My problem is related to PPPoE and PPP (DSL modem) and I suspect he is
using a similar setup. The OS is trying to send a packet which it won't
fragment because of MTU Discovery, but it's too big to fit in a PPPoE
packet so it fails.

It just happens that accessing Hotmail via Squid makes the problem
appear relatively often even when everything else seems to be working.
