Hunt,

The command "strings msntauth | grep msntauth.conf" output was empty.
Typing without the grep command, the results are in the following attachment
(strings.txt)
Take a look and see if there's something that could explain the error.

Thanks,

Fabio,
In your msntauth.conf make sure you are using the NT machine name not a
FQDN (no machine.host.com)
You could do:
strings msntauth | grep msntauth.conf
to see where msntauth thinks your conf file should be.
The msnt_auth in libexec is an older version of this app.

Hunt,

I've done these tests and the results are always the same: ERR, for the
correct and incorrect password and username.
About the msntauth.conf, what I said is that, the file wasn't in the
/usr/local/squid/etc directory by default. I moved it to there.
Any tips ??
What is the msnt_auth file in the /usr/local/squid/libexec/squid directory ?

Thanks

No, no samba needed.

You can test msntauth from the command line (no squid)

./msntauth
hunt_steve wrong-password
ERR
hunt_steve my-password
OK

Don't put NT Domain in usernames.

My msntauth.conf is in /usr/local/squid/etc also.
msntauth is in /usr/local/squid/bin

HUNT,

I need to have the Samba package installed on the system to get MSNT
authentication working ?

I've followed all the steps in the README.html file and it isn't working yet
!!!
The file msntauth.conf wasn't in the /usr/local/squid/etc directory like in
the documentation. I moved it from the ...auth_modules/MSNT directory to
that directory. Is it that correct ?

Help !!!!

Thanks

Hi,
msntauth queries the NT domain controllers listed in the msntauth.conf file,
users don't have to be Linux users.
.
and then in squid.conf:

authenticate_program /usr/local/squid/bin/msntauth
acl auth_users proxy_auth REQUIRED
http_access allow auth_users

Hope this helps!

Subject: [squid-users] MSNT Authentication question

Hi,

I wanto to know how the MSNT Authentication works. I have my users in a NT
domain and I want to authenticate these users in the squid running in a
linux box.

Do I have to create these users at the linux also or the authgenticate
program use only the NT domain users ?

Thanks,
