Hi,

The only way to stop the browser using the cache is to configure the
browser not to use the cache. There are several ways of doing this
including manual configuration (eg for Netscape use the menu options:
Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Proxies) or automatic configuration using .pac
files.

"always_direct" and "never_direct" control whether squid itself goes
direct to the server of the URL requested or queries another proxy, which
may or may not cache information (eg firewall or another cache - parent
or sibling).
