Well, if you want to do things the hairy chested way then... good
luck. I do wonder why you do not use the NetBSD pkgsrc for compiling
squid, the pkgsrc maintainers work hard to make sure that the packages
build, install and uninstall cleanly. If this is not the case then
you can always send-pr the problem.

If you really want to continue, dig through the configure script and
find out why the fd_mask is not being picked up. It is important that
you get the size of fd_mask correct (especially on an Alpha) otherwise
all sorts of havoc with library calls will occur.
