[squid-users] Slow web access...

Hello, I am using 2.4.STABLE6 for FreeBSD-4.5.
I have a AMD Duron 800MHZ/512MB ram. A simple allow
all access list, cache_mem to 64 MB. FreeBSD maxfiles
to 14K, everything seems just right. When I run squid
and apply the cisco rules for transparent proxy, it
starts receiving a lot of connections, displaying the
page, but very slow.

No errors from freebsd nor cache.log. Still like 200MB
of free ram left, but my cpu is at 0.00% idle.

Also I tried running squid without caching to avoid
disk I/O but ended with the same results.

Squid reports 1009 clients when this was happening.

Any sugestions to track down the problem?
