Only marginal impact on performance, but you get more boxes which must work..

If you can avoid transparency then avoid it. Certainly when using Squid as a
parent of ISA there is not need to run Squid as a transparent proxy, just
configure ISA to use Squid as a parent HTTP proxy (see the ISA
documentation). Transparent proxying will cause problems sooner or later, and
is considerably more complex to set up than normal proxying.
