Which is not the version number you said before.. (you claimed you were

Do you mean that you configured your browser to go direct, bypassing Squid,
or that you configured Squid to both not use any peers for fetching the
object AND to not cache the result (these two things are controlled by
different directives).

What do you get in Squid's access.log when accessing the site where you have
problems..
