[squid-users] Improving Squid Settings (squid.conf)

Greetings!

I am running Squid on RedHat Linux 7.2 on a Pentium 4 1400-Mhz computer, 512 RAM, 80 GB hard drive, and we have a Satellite downlink to our site (384kb/sec line).

My dilemma: how can I improve the squid settings (in squid.conf) so that when multiple high-bandwith intensive sites (such as uproar.com or yahoo.com/games) are used, that the processes are sped up? "Normal" (non-gaming) sites appear as quick as I'd like; the gaming sites take a little while to load.

I've set the cache_mem to 32Mb, the ipcache_size to 2048, and the fqdn_cache to 2048. Should I increase the "maximum_size_of_object"? If I do, I'm scared that the speed of loading "normal" pages may suffer.

Any help would, as always, be appreciated...

Thanks again,

Ryan H.
