Hi There,

We use a very simple method of load balancing and not to mention very
cheap!!

We have 4 dns entries for 2 servers:

proxy: 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2 (2 entries with different IP's)
proxy1: 10.0.0.1
proxy2: 10.0.0.2

When we hand out the proxy server hostname to the browser via a proxy.pac
we hand out the hostname "proxy" when the dns lookup is done it will get a
response as shown below.

> proxy
Server: dns.server.com
Address: 10.0.0.22

Name: proxy.server.com
Addresses: 10.0.0.2, 10.0.0.1

This will be alternate so the next time around you will get 10.0.0.1 as the
first address, which means this splits up the requests between the 2
servers.

We also pass multiple addresses to the browser with the .pac in case...

Please this is a very simple load balancing idea and does not offer really
anything apart from roughly splitting the requests for the 2 proxys, in our
case this works great.

Hope this helps / makes sense....
