Then the Netcache is most likely configured to use NTLM over HTTP as
authenticatin mechanism, and there will be server problems with running any
child caches connecting to this Netcache...

It should be quite easy to tell if this is the problem by enabling
log_mime_hdrs in squid.conf. If you see NTLM in the logged headers then you
know.
