RE: [squid-users] cache tuning

Thanks - but I am not concerned with the performance of squid as far as
speed goes. I simply want to be able to cache more things for longer. Any
suggestions on what I can change, or has anybody already done this that can
advise what needs to be changed?

Regards,
Tony

refresh_pattern is one of the most tuning parameter, the others
by this field you can only increase your hit rate.

in linux, compile your squid with --enable-async-io=xx and then use aufs
filesystem in your squid.conf
try to use SCSI devices instead of IDE, set noatime option for cache
partitions.
try to use multiple hard disks as your cache partition.
set client_half_close off
set client/server_persistent_connetion on

see the part 1 of securing and optimizing linux , especially network
optimization.

besure that you have enough memory for your system. besure of your cpu
strength by checking and monitoring "vmstat 1"
