Squid normally does not use the domain search list of /etc/resolv.conf.
Squid assumes any host names with dots in them are FQDN.

You might be able to convince Squid to use the /etc/resolv.conf domain
search list by compiling Squid with the --disable-internal-dns option and
adding the "dns_defnames on" directive to squid.conf.
