after which i deleted the cache dir(44%full--10GB alloted) & then
recomplied squid. i madesure than squid services is not on.. but when i
tried to start squid again-->squid -NCd1 it gave error...

2002/09/19 23:03:28| Set Current Directory to /var/spool/squid

to confirm i gave commands--->
[root@cab1 squid-2.4.STABLE7]# squid -k shutdown
squid: ERROR: Could not send signal 15 to process 6462: (3) No such process

is my hard disk behaving abnormal ? bad sectors ?... or is it due to
some other problem.. this server--RH7.2 with squid 24S7(earlier 24S6)
have been running smoothly, & wherver i felt the hard disk capacity
comming to full, i deleted /var/spool/squid directory & started squid a
fresh... am not sure if thats the right way but am doing it since i
remember...
i cannot restart the server coz its our main--squid-router-firewal
server serving over 1000 ip's ( 4mb from isp) traffic everyday(its got
julian's patches too for handling routing/bandwidth from 2 isp).. so for
the time being i have bypassed using squid cache..
my Question is... with 768 ram on pIII 833Mhz is this the right
configuration for us ? and secondly, is there a way to start squid
without restarting the server ??
awaiting a reply... thanking in advance for ur time...
