[squid-users] user name in access.log

Is possible to make squid to record the name of the user instead of the IP of
the machine in the archive access.log without using authenticate_program ?
I am using transparent proxy.
Which the forms to say to squid that the IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is being used for
the the same user zzzzzz so that in log the name zzzzzz together with the IP
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ?
 
The only way is to use authentication?
