[squid-users] Squid Cache Strange Errors / Corruption

Dear All,

I'm running a squid cache squid-2.4.STABLE7-4 (RH's RPM) on a RH Linux 8.0 PII 266MMX, 256MB RAM machine.

Recently, I noticed that I started to get errors when visiting some sites. Firstly, when I visited some sites, it will prompt me the following.

You are downloading the file / from netvity[1].

See http://www.inix.dhs.org/download.png for details.

At times, the solution would be simple. All I need to do is just to press refresh, and it works already. However, other times it just won't work. Take out the cache in my IE settings and it works fine.

Even more strange, is the corruption of certain sites. Some sites, have a tendency to get "corrupted" when I visit them, and my IE will show nothing but garbage. Again, a quick reload may solve the problem but sometimes it won't work

See http://www.inix.dhs.org/corrupted.png for details.

Below-mentioned are also some examples of how the corruption is like.

I've tried to delete the cache and re-creating the cache directory, re-installing Squid from the RPM. I'm not sure what to do next.

Should I re-compile (this time from source) squid and try to run it? Also, I've noticed this problem 1 1/2 year ago when I was using a squid 2.2 proxy in school. No corruption of stuff, but just downloading the file / from xyzsite[1].

I didn't have any problems at home then.

I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. I tried searching the mailing list but nothing comes close.
