Welcome to the world of buggy web browsers ;-)

The option in english is something like "Show user friendly HTTP error
messages". What it does is that it simply replaces any error messages
received with what MSIE thinks is a suitable error description, usually
based on the HTTP status code alone..

The HTTP RFC standard defines that user agents SHOULD show received
error messages to the user, allowing the user to take appropriate action
to resolve the situation.

As authentication involves a initial access denial message it is not too
surprising this option has effect on the MSIE authentication bug..
