[squid-users] best platform with squid

Hi Everyone,

We are just about to upgrade all of our squid hardware.

I am looking for opinions on which platform is best to run squid on.

I have heard the likes on freeBSD, Linux being a better platform than
Solaris x86.

We are currently running on Dell poweredge servers which run solaris 8 x86.

And Sun E250's running solaris 8

We are looking at either HP hardware running Solaris 8 or Sun hardware
running Solaris 8 but I have been reading and it seems there may be a
better option.

I have had someone tell me that they changed from Sun hardware to intel and
ran linux and had dramatic preformace improvment.

Does anyone have some valuable feeback ?
