Hi All

I have a Cisco Router configured with Asynchronous dialup access. All
connected clients are getting a static IP address from the address pool
assigned from the Ethernet range on the local router. We have a squid proxy
server allowing the network for all workstations on this LAN and they are
able to access the internet. The dialup users can however not access the
Internet. When I do a ping to the the full qualified domain name it does
resolve the DNS address. I also looked at the Network mask that is specified
under the allowed list which is 255.255.252.0. When different Workstations
types dials in Windows handles the masks differently, for example Windows
95,98 will assign a classfull mask and Windows 2000, XP will assign a mask
of 255.255.255.255. We are using a Private class a Address internally which
causes problems connecting to the Internet. I also tried to add more
specific entries in the allow list, example - begin ip address 10.72.1.243 -
end IP Address 10.72.1.243 -Network Mask 255.255.255.255 and moved the allow
list above my existing Local users access list.

I am running Webmin on the proxy server and are able to connect to the
server when I am dialed up so network connectivity is not a problem. Our
firewall also has a certain Web sites opened for which the Proxy server can
be bypassed under IE or Netscape, and I am able to Browse these pages.

I did run a tail on the access.log file under /etc/log/squid and don't see
any matches when I try and access the Net....

Does anyone have any suggestions....

Thanks

Cassie Bezuidenhout
