   - This is not normal, in the sense that the problem of disappearing
files must be beyond squid's actions when it, for instance,
crashes.
  
   - Try to focus on one particular box : in that case, which
platform/os/
version are you using ?

   - Make sure that none, of , for instance system related cronjobs
are interfering with your daily squid operation,for instance.
