[squid-users] Squid and Glimpse/Harvest Question

Hello,

Does anyone know of a way, or even if it is possible, to have Squid
interfaced to the Glimpse webbot, or any webbot or spider? Or directly
coupled to the Glimpse search engine?

I am working on a proof of concept to see if I can couple the
Glimpse/Harvest distributed search engine to Squid. The idea is to have
a Squid caching server setup at a school and have the search engine
spider/webbot gather information based on a learning plan defined by a
teacher and feed this data into Squid. Then Harvest engine would
perform it's queries on the Squid server and found would point to data
resident in Squid cache.

I see this as a way to minimize bandwidth usage in remote school systems
where bandwidth is so costly, but also as an attempt to optimize the
Internet as a learning tool.

This would not be like trying to inject raw stream data into squid,
since the webbot would have urls for all data it would be storing in
squid.

Then the next step is to develop a system that would create
personalized, topic specific portfolios for each student based on what
part of the 'learning plan' they are in. So, whenever they logged into
the system, they would be presented with an updated portfolio on their
subject topic (or topics).

Hope this makes sense,
