I think I've discovered a partial fix.

If you go into IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced:
Uncheck 'Use HTTP 1.1' and Check 'Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy
connections' it ends up working correctly. Rather.. it messes up the
first time as you connect through IE but then each connection after
works perfect.

Everything is different if you run the browser without a proxy. In fact
the field where your browsers sends a corrupted hostname does not even
exists when not using a proxy.
