We have the same installation...

squid1 -> dg -> squid2

Squid1 (2.5 stable 5):
- NTLM validation schema using helper Samba 3.02
- No cache
- logging

dg (2.7.7-4):
- content filtering

squid2 (2.5 stable 5):
- caching requests
- redirect to script for control advs, popups, etc

One problem we found was trying to connect to y! messenger but is fixed now.

Michael,
     We have a Compaq Dual 1Ghz, 1 GB RAM.
     The total simultaneous connections was about 80.
     It used to make the job, but recently web upgraded our firewall,
making them work with load balancing, and the simultaneous connections
now are about 150. I am putting another compaq (1 processos of 1Ghz, 1
Gb RAM) to see if the other can breath a little.
Alex.
