[squid-users] SNMP

I am having trouble with snmp on Debian Linux. Basically
a heap of configuration directives give errors and snmpwalk
doesn't seem able to talk to squid. I would really appreciate
any help people may offer.

These are my problems.

sand:/usr/share/doc/squid# snmpwalk localhost public enterprises.nlanr.squid snmpwalk: Timeout
sand:/usr/share/doc/squid# snmpwalk -m /usr/share/squid/mib.txt -IR 127.0.0.1 public
public: Unknown Object Identifier

Squid is running and something is listening on
the snmp port. I am not running snmpd. Do I need to?

sand:/usr/share/doc/squid# netstat -a -n | grep -n "udp.*:3401"
25:udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:3401 0.0.0.0:*
26:udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:3401 0.0.0.0:*
sand:/usr/share/doc/squid#

I have verified that snmp support was compiled in.

I have attached the squid.conf. The commented lines were ones that
I got off the FAQ I think but they generate errors when squid
starts up.
I have consulted many websites including the user manual, the
FAQ and mailing list archives.

Thanks in advance,

Ben Marsh
