[squid-users] reference_age directive .. alternative

hi all..

i've noticed the reference_age directive has been
stopped since Squid-2.4 (haven't run squid in ages)...

what is the alternative directive to manage how long
objects remain in the cache..?. or is this now handled
dynamically by Squid..?.. if so, what algorithm is
used..?..
