Mirroring of ftp using wget via a HTTP proxy also works, just as it does
for mirroring http:// sites.. the drawback is that there will be a lot of
index.html files created with the directory listings returned by the
proxy.

Ask CERN who wrote the original libwww..

For ftp the variable is ftp_proxy
