than the init script runs "squid -D"

I just upgraded from squid-2.4.STABLE6 to squid-2.5.STABLE7 on RH6.2. (yes,
egcs-2.91.66)

I started with the Fedora Core 3 rpm, so of course I had to remove the
compile options "-fPIE -Os -g -pipe -fsigned-char"

When I start squid with "squid -z -F -D" (the default in
/etc/rc.d/init.d/squid), I see it creating or verifying the swap
directories and then, after a fork , immediately exits. I can start and
run "squid -F -D" with no problem.
