[squid-users] Ident, Squid, Mandrake LE 10.2 and a headache

I'd like to use the ident command within Squid. So I beleive that I need to
recompile to enable its functionality.

I've downloaded a Mandrake 10.2 'squid...SRC.RPM' and used 'rpm -ivh
squid..src.rpm' to install it.
To test the process, WITHOUT modifying the squid.specs file I've tried to
recompile the source
using 'rpmbuild -ba squid.spec'

I get about one meter of junk scrolled to the screen, this ends with a
+error 0 and it produces a RPM file
If I try to install the produced rpm file I get an error 'Some package
requested cannot be installed squid ... (due to unsatisfied perl
(shellwords.pl))

As a newbie non of this means anything to me. I don't even know how to
divert the screen output to a file or printer so that I get a chance to read
it.
Whilst I'm not a techie I've been playing with computers since the vic20 and
this is the first time I've ever had to ask for help, perhaps I'm getting
old?

Any simple instructions would be appreciated.
