We're going to need more information than that.

Firstly - can you setup Squid on another machine that only one person
(probably you) can use?

Can you then verify that, if only one person is using the proxy, the
behaviour is the same?

If thats the case then you can turn on debug logging (which is going to be
pretty verbose) and then get to the bottom of why the connection is being
dropped out.

Of course, if management is willing to go for a commercial solution then
would they be willing to pay for squid support? Squid could get a lot more
love and attention if some companies paid for squid support.
