Actually, cancel that. I strongly suspect that Henrik's post (http://www.mail-archive.com/squid-users@squid-cache.org/msg12596.html) will solve the problem. So that is section 4.8 of http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ_long.html.
