im pretty sure it the upstream (starband.net) caching and periodically
breaking things. after 2 days of running off the proxy, i still see a
lot of broken links off and on. too many errors right now to assume
it's squid's fault! :(

sorry for wasting time if thats the case, and thanks for everybody
