 From what I was told when I first posted about this, 2.5 is no longer
maintained. There was a bug posted for similar behaviour, which was
fixed for 2.6:

I'd love to know if you see the same problem when if you were to upgrade
that box to 2.6 (assuming it is feasible). It would reassure me I am not
going insane! :)
