At this point squid is running. Then (~1.5 minutes later) something
tells it to stop...

We need to figure out what is telling your Squid to stop. Are you
starting it from the command line? If so, how? Using startup scripts?
Calling Squid directly? In either case, what options are being passed
to Squid?
