My 404.html have this content
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>404 Not Found</title>
</head><body>
<!-- %S -->
<h1>Not Found</h1>
<p>The requested URL was not found on this server.</p>
<hr>
<address>WWW Server Port 80</address>
</body></html>

but the Generated .... line is still there. An other hint?

Thanks
