This is only needed if you compiled Squid with the
--disable-internal-dns option. Doing so is not recommended.

Try...

su squid -c "echo yahoo.com | /usr/lib64/squid/dnsserver"

...and see if it still works.

I'd seriously recommend not compiling with the --disable-internal-dns
configuration option.
