In my experience, squid 3.2 in transparent/intercept mode often fails requests to sites like google.com and Facebook.com with "host header forgery" errors and the connections hang. I've filed bug 3528 http://bugs.squid-cache.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3528 about this.
