we are using squid 3.2.3, under (heavy) load we get a lot of

assertion failed: comm.cc:1259: "isOpen(fd)"

messages in cache.log, after this message squid does a restart. this happens with either worker 1 or worker 2 [ or more workers ]

where to look further? is it a problem with diskcache - we are using aufs for cache_dir ? slow hardware at any point?

I have openend a bug (http://bugs.squid-cache.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3677) this error can be reproduced when duing ntlm-auth over a proxy chain.
first I thought it has something to do with ntlm auth over proxy (connection-auth=on) but I am not sure anymore. when trying to find the calls in access.log during that time there is nothing suspicious, at least there seems to be no ntlm-auth in our intranet, mostly access to internet (here we do ntlm-auth via ntlm_auth and winbind).

any ideas where to look?
