transparent HTTPS

I'm attempting to use Squid as a transparent HTTP and HTTPS proxy via
DNS mangling. The HTTP portion is working beautifully. HTTPS is
partially working - the browser client establishes an SSL connection
fine, but any connections from Squid to the remote server are always
HTTP, even if HTTPS is requested.

Anybody have any idea of how this could be made to work?

Q. Why is this so clumsy?
A. The trick is to use Perl's strengths rather than its weaknesses.
