 Can you check squid logs and extract what URL's have been fetched
 during the time the steepest jump of free mem occurred.
 Look for huge objects, objects that are fetched repetitiously many
 times. Look for possible streaming content. Huge POSTs. Try to
 judge with your gut feeling what is untypical during this time.

 Are you using some extra non-default authentication stuff?
 Please provide your configure commandline. (its stuffed into
 config.status at the top).
