Meta-data storage

Hi, folks,

I see that the meta-data is currently prepended to
the cached object. I am wondering what are the pros
and cons of separating the meta-data from cached
objects. For example, put them in different files or
different directory, ie for the object
/cache/00/00/0000000A, we store the meta-data as
/cache/00/00/0000000A.meta or in a different directory
/meta/00/00/0000000A. I think it is easier for me to
mess with the meta-data if we do it this way.

It seems to me the only advantage of the current
approach is to speed up the initialization process to
fill up the store entries quickly without reading two
files. Are there other advantages of doing this?

Thanks.
Yee Man
