how squid handle time outs to origin server

hello SQUID Developer
I have following fwd server list (fwdState->servers)

Parent1 ----> parent2--->Sibling1-->www.asdf.com

i gone thorgh code but fall into confusino state...

here www.asdf.com is last entry
how this list is manipulated by squid when parent1 gives conn time out

and if i have
Parent1 ----> sibling1--->www.asdf.com-->parent2->
how this list is manipulated by squid when parent1 gives conn time out
