2.6.STABLE6 coming up

starting to plan for a 2.6.STABLE6 release shortly, mainly due to Bug
#1805, #1817 and some of the cosmetic cleanups..

so please be restrictive with changes for the next week or so if there
there is the slightest doubt on the quality of the change.
