local_domain only causes it not to be fetched from parents/siblings. Use
cache_stoplist as well, or [refresh_pattern/i if 1.1], [ttl_pattern/i if
1.0] if you maybe want it to be cached for a very short time indeed.

I'd recommend the latter because then (in 1.1) squid will use IMS if it has
"expired" and feed back the object out of the cache if its still the same.
This happens even if the client doesn't request it. Also common gifs which
appear on multiple pages (bullet point gifs etc. you know the type of stuff
I mean) will be there already probably. It really is quicker - that's why
people use squid as an accelerator!
