Think of unlinkd like a news server. It takes longer for most unix's
to delete a file using rm, then to "unlink" directly via the FAT.

So squid is using unlink to save time. For example "fastrm" on a
INND News Server performs the same "unlink" command. And most perl
programmers us "unlink" rather than "rm" since its faster.
