Because there seemed to be no solution, I tried using the regex library
shipped with squid by altering "configure". Before configure used the
library from my Slackware 3.1 Linux distribution by default.
Results : The bug did not reappear so far (nevertheless I will have to
wait another week, because it did rarely occur).
PERFORMANCE ist up. The fastest turnaround for HITs from access.log was
16 ms before, 7 ms after !!!
So with large regex based ACLs obviously choosing the right regex library
is very important. Can anyone comment on this issue, who is a programmer
? (I did never write a line of C code)
