SQUID 1.1.22 as a relay only proxy ?

I just upgraded a relay only Squid box from 1.1.20 to 1.1.22.
It worked fine in 1.1.20 with cache_swap set to 0.

But now, in 1.1.22, cache.log complains about cache_mem being greater than
 cache_swap. So I set cache_mem to 0 but then it appears that cache_swap is
invalid!

I know I can patch the code. But is there any clean way to setup Squid 1.1.
22 to act as a relay only?

PS: I suppose I could use the TIS toolkit http-gw. But I am not familiar with
 it and I am not sure it can handle FTP and HTTPS requests as Squid does
(comments welcome).
