pinger

hello,
I want to use pinger application which comes with squid...
but when I try it from command line it says;

turkey:/usr/users/staff/yurtesen/squid/squid-1.NOVM.22/src>./pinger
./pinger: ICMP support not compiled in.
turkey:/usr/users/staff/yurtesen/squid/squid-1.NOVM.22/src>

is it normal?
because when I try ftpget I get its help screen...
