If I am not mistaken mit-pthreads is a user-space threads package
without kernel threads. There is no point in using this kind of threads
in Squid.

For Squid to gain from --enable-async-io kernel threads is required.
Without kernel threads --enable-async-io will make Squid go a lot
slower.
