I recently requested information from Andrew Earley at Mirror Image, on
using their Central Cache service. He forwarded me the below information
and I am copying "squid-users" because this is of intrest to all. You
really have nothing to lose, and I am interested in getting feedback from
other squid users on whether or not this is a valuable service we should
be looking at using. We are giving it a try here at ShreveNet, it's a
simple 5minute setup (type in their ICP information)...............
I guess it's like a "peering point" or NAP for caches :)
What do you all make of this?

Subject: Connect to MII's Central Cache
Brian,
here is the information you requested
Free 30 day trial for Squid users!!
Connect to a Mirror Image Central Cache in the US, UK or Germany.
Avoid long-haul congestion and bottlenecks by having your ISP level cache
retrieve popular Web pages from a nearby Mirror Image Central Cache.
Installed at key Internet traffic points around the globe, each Central
Cache acts as an aggregate cache for a large number of local caches.
Because a larger user base means a higher cache hit rate, this translates
into higher performance for you and your users.
The Central Cache Connection is entirely hassle-free. No additional
hardware is required, and there's no software to install. To enjoy the
benefits of the Mirror Image Central Cache Connection, you'll need an
ICP-compliant cache deployed on your local network configured to point to
the Central Cache, establishing a standard ICP sibling relationship. The
Central Cache Connection works with leading software proxy caches and cache
appliances, including:
-Cisco Cache Engine
-Netscape 3.5 Proxy Server
-Novell Border Manager FastCache
-N2H2 Bess Cache Express
-Cobalt Networks CacheQube
-Inktomi Traffic Server
-Sun Netra Server
-Squid Community Shareware
-Other ICP-compliant caches
